Music and Theatre

For music lovers Paderborn is the place to be. Concerts of all kinds -from modern to classical, operas, operettas, musicals, cabaret shows and balls are held in the PaderHalle concert hall, while chamber musicians and soloists perform in the Imperial Palace. Paderborn's annual summer programme of organ music attracts musicians from all over Europe and overseas. Organ cycles featuring famous organists and concerts by choirs of international standing are held in the Cathedral. For jazz, rock, folk and blues lovers the Culture Workshop in the Bahnhofstraße is the ideal destination. Other annual festivals and events include the two days of Ancient and Modern Music, which are held in the reception room in Schloß Neuhaus, erstwhile home to Paderborn's Prince-Bishops, the Sunday matinees in the municipal art gallery and the Puppet Theatre Week in the PaderHalle.

The Baroque Garden in the grounds of Schloß Neuhaus provides the perfect setting for the annual 'Castle Summer Events Programme', which runs from May to October and provides cultural entertainment for both young and old. The city also boasts an impressive range of theatres and a correspondingly lively theatrical scene. Theatres in Paderborn include the main Westfälischen Kammerspielen theatre, the open-air theatre in Schloß Neuhaus, the University theatre and the Amalthea, a new 'reading theatre' in the Jühengasse. Regular performances are also staged by the University's "English Drama GroupÂ?, and two amateur theatrical groups for teenagers, the 'junge amateur theater' and the 'Theater der Jugend'. Paderborn is also an annual venue for many excellent guest performers.
