The 58 council members convene in the Weser Renaissance style town hall where they continue the progressive policy-making for which the city is well-known. In 1999, the first full-time Mayor, Heinz Paus, became head of the city council, and is also in charge of city administration. The 1600 staff are not only responsible for the implementation of council resolutions but also provide services for the city inhabitants.
